Christians and Christmas

Information regarding Christmas and Christ's birth why there is no relation.

The first thing that we need to consider is there is no authority for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ as a religious holiday.  Since the New Testament is silent about celebrating the birth of Christ as a religious holiday, to do so would be adding to the Scriptures which is a violation of the principle of Revelation 22:18.  Since God has given us "all things that pertain to life and godliness" 2 Peter 1:3.  Also, Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."  Since there is no authority for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ, the conclusion must be that God does not want Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ.

The second thing that we need to consider is that the New Testament is silence concerning the day of the year that Jesus Christ was born.  If the day of Jesus Christ's birth were important, then God would have mentioned it in the New Testament.  Collier's Encyclopedia states "it is impossible to determine the exact date of the birth of Christ, either from the evidence of the gospels, or from any sound tradition."  Scholars have mentioned every month of the year as being the month that Jesus was born.

Another thing to consider is that the early Christians did not celebrate Christmas.  It was not until the fourth century that Christmas started being celebrated.  In all probability, it was in an effort to keep recent converts from paganism from celebrating a pagan festival around December 25 that the church in Rome started celebrating the birth of Christ.
